How's everyone doing?

I'm very happy this year's fandomgiftbasket is finally open! I made a total of 5 gifts, I think, and received 3 lovely ones! I got 2 sets of icons, one of Chiana (I'm using one of them for this entry!) and the other of Avon and Vila, and a lovely fic about Sam and Jacob Carter from SG-1. You can check them out here. This was fun and I'm glad I joined in this year!

Now I'm going to try to participate in round 12 of  ladiesbingo. I want to create more fanworks focused on women, and I'm sure the different prompts will help! It's also fun to have different mediums I can create fanworks in, since I enjoyed that part of Fandom Gift Basket a lot. As soon as I get my bingo card I'll be sharing it in a new entry!

What I'm reading: Believe it or not, I'm reading Jane Eyre for the first time. I'm enjoying it SO much I can barely stop reading! I'm astounded by how the book is narrated, how clear and developed Jane's psyche is and how intimately you get to know her and follow her as she grows up. In a way it reminded me a lot of Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (which I still haven't finished, but I'm almost there) because of their prose and how successfully the point of view of a child is achieved. And, at the same time, the criticisms of Christian dogma are very strong in both cases, although the circumstances are different. And, of course, Jane Eyre came earlier!

What I'm watching: I'm picking up Stargate SG-1 where I left it, so I'm halfway through season 6! This season focuses a lot on the Tok'ra and the Jaffar, has Jonas replacing Daniel, and a lot of episodes where they don't even use a Stargate! I really like Jonas, but I always feel very defensive of characters who are brought as replacements for others, so it was what I expected. But he's an interesting character, really! And I like his dynamics with Sam and Teal'c a lot. The non-Stargate using episodes are often really good, and it's nice that they were doing something a bit different. I have to say I didn't like John de Lancie's character that much (I never even memorised his name), whereas Maybourne I like more every time he shows up! I'm getting a bit obsessed with his relationship with Jack. Yes, even in a shippy way! And if you think that's niche, let me tell you about Sam and Jonas... But I'll leave it there for now!
