Late January update

Guess who had no WiFi for about a week and who's been studying for 5-6 hours every day for the past 11 days... Yep, that's me! I've also been really busy writing for Candy Hearts, so I haven't really had time to post and until TODAY I didn't even have an Internet connection on my laptop. So awful. And the studying is for these exams that are supposed to take place in June and are required to teach in public schools. Wish me luck!

I'll see if I can still complete the Snowflake Challenge! How's everyone doing?

Hoje tivemos uma tempestade e eu fiquei duas horas sem energia elétrica, consequentemente sem internet (meu 4G estava fraco e oscilando, o Wi-fi obviamente inexistente). Não sei se aguentaria ficar tanto tempo sem me conectar a internet, eu me informo por ela todos os dias antes mesmo do jornal da manhã noticiar os fatos (às vezes nem o fazem). Espero que tudo esteja bem agora.

Está sim obrigada. Eu também vou deixando mensagens acumular. É um hábito que adquiri nos últimos anos... Por sorte nada mais de tempestades que fazem cair a energia, só algumas explosões de transformadores sem motivo aparente.

I realised you haven't posted for months, hope everything is okay! I read about the power cuts in Spain and Portugal, I hope they have ended now.

I'm okay!! Sorry for my absence, I keep forgetting to reply and post, and get randomly busy and stressed so I feel like I've got no time. Which isn't true, really, because you can often find some time to post! But I'm terrible at it.

The power cuts didn't affect us in the islands, so I was okay! Our phones and internet stopped working for a few hours, but I was at work and it wasn't much of an issue (I'm unemployed again anyway lol). Thank you for thinking of me!

Oh that's good about the power cuts, I read all these awful things about Spain and France, and hoped you were okay. Work can be very on and off can't it, I know the feeling 😕

Yeah, people in the mainland had a hard day with those power cuts!
I got hired for 2 really intense weeks at a school (the kids had a musical too so I had to work all day for a few days), then left all of a sudden because the teacher I was substituting came back, and next week I start again for 2 weeks. I also have German exams these days (one later today) and a BIG exam in a month or so, for which I've been preparing for about 6 months, which isn't nearly enough to do well but it's better than nothing. So I'm very stressed at the moment :(

That power cut just made me think: how overdependent we are on technology, apps, the internet! What if there was a permanent worldwide breakdown of the internet? We'd be helpless. I read an article by someone saying 'but it was okay, everyone sat outside and chatted, and helped each other.' That is all very well in a warm country in the summer, but what about deepest, darkest winter in a cold country? That would be very different.

Oh gosh that does sound like hard work! The school and all those exams. Best of luck with all that. Nothing lasts forever, and if you're going through hell, keep going. Those are my best advices.

So you may remember I lost my job last autumn but I was extremely lucky to find a new one very quickly and also some clients from the old company followed me because they still wanted to work with me. So I feel double lucky. I have work til January 2026 now which is a relief as we were in dire straits last year for sure.

So I'm busy but relieved.
