long time no see

Hello there! It's been almost a year since I last posted here, although I never went back to Tumblr anyway (leaving Tumblr was the reason why I joined DW). I've mostly been on Twitter but I thought I might try being here again. How is everyone doing? I hope you're all safe, here in Spain we've been on lockdown for at least 40 days I think, and it's honestly a lot.

I've been distracting myself by watching tv shows. First I finished watching Xena, which I had started watching already, and although I hated the ending I loved the show. I watched it as a kid so it brought good memories, and of course I LOVE Xena/Gabby. After that I watched Battlestar Galactica, which I also loved and actually had an ending that I liked (controversial, I know). I'm a bit obsessed with Gaius, as I think he's the most interesting character in the show, and with Six (especially Caprica) and their relationship. Finally, I decided to start watching Star Trek a few days ago. Mind you, I've been wanting to do so for years, but the amount of tv shows and films of the franchise intimidated me. I felt that I was ready now! I'm enjoying TOS so far, I hadn't watched old sci-fi since my Doctor Who days when I'd watch some random classic Who serials.

One last question since I'm back. Are there any active comms that you are enjoying lately?

covidcoffeecorner is a new daily community with chatting prompts every day for chatting during this current lockdown time
sunshine_challenge should pick up in June will regular fandom based posting prompts // a sort of sibling community to January's snowflake_challenge
fictional_fans is a regular prompt topic chat community about fandom as a whole

Maybe those will help? I've found a lot of people and great conversations through those communities alone.

I'm doing good. Been stuck at home for far too long, as a fever caused me to miss my shift for work. Only three more weeks to go and I get to be useful to society again! Norway has been very fortunate though, so the lockdown is starting to list now, with younger kids being let back into school. Hopefully things in Spain settle down soon ♥

I'm still bottlenecked on s1 of Xena as I'm refusing myself any more until I finish at least a damn vidlet *g* This is definitely the time to catch up on/rewatch some classics. Netflix just got all of Community, so that's been my go to for a boost of happy. Watching ST should definitely give you more than enough to get through though hehe.

As for communities, I'm enjoying ladybusiness as always, and the icon communities have been fairly active. scans_daily is nice if you're into comics. I've also really been enjoying fanart_recs.

I'm glad to hear the situation is better in Norway, and that you can go back to work soon! I hope you recovered from your fever. I was working in a project with several schools but when they closed everything stopped, so now I have to wait till September to continue with my job. But besides that, the numbers are really looking much better now and the government has decided it's time for children to take some walks, soon some restaurants and bars will be open, etc.

I'm sure you'll love watching the rest of Xena when you finish that vidlet! It really is the best time to watch or rewatch some shows.

Yeah, I saw that kids are allowed outside for an hour so long as they're with an adult. That must be such a release for the poor parents and their cooped up kids.

Oh btw, when it comes to active places, you're much better off finding people with active journals that share your interests. Sadly communities don't really thrive anymore, besides challenge communities. Reactions and meta usually go in journals, AO3 has pretty much taken fic announcements and recs lists off the table, and graphics mostly go on tumblr.

Yes, I'm happy for the kids and their families! Apparently everyone might be able to go outside for an hour starting on Saturday, they still have to give the details but it sounds promising.

Oh I hadn't realised, that's interesting. I'll look for more journals to follow then! Shame about Tumblr though, there are many artists I used to follow there who got their NSFW art removed.

Checking who has the same interests tags as you(just click them on your profile) will give you a list of users with the same interest, sorted by who updated last. Doesn't guarantee they're actively posting about it though, especially for older fandoms.

One thing I like to do if a new show or movie had particularly caught my interest, is go to Explore/Site and Journal Search (just avoid common words like "the"). That'll bring up the most recent entries containing the word(s), and hopefully you find someone who's just as taken with your new shiny as you are ;)

Those are great ideas! I haven't used the interests tags in a while so I should do that again as I have new interests, but I've never done your second suggestion before. Thank you!
