tv shows, books, wips and more
Hi, everyone! I know, I know. I haven't posted in almost a year. I keep forgetting to post while I'm still lurking here, sorry for that. But now I can talk for a bit about everything I've been watching, reading, watching and such. Spoilers for everything, by the way. Let's go!
So last December I watched all of Succession just in time to watch the finale with everyone else. And what a fantastic show that is! I've posted 2 finished fics and one WIP that's kind of abandoned for the moment, a bad habit of mine. They're all about Tomgreg, which is what I ship from the show, but I honestly enjoy all the characters and their dynamics. I can't wait for season 4!
I watched Farscape earlier this year and WOW. I'm still a bit obsessed with it. John Crichton is a superb protagonist, Scorpius a fascinating villain, Aeryn a wonderful character, and I just love everyone in the show, seriously. John and Aeryn's romance was really good, even if I was a bit disappointed with how it was written in season 4 and TPKW. John and Scorpius's dynamic was another highlight, and Scorpius in general is a character that fascinates me. Farscape is such a kinky show visually, with all the leather, torture devices and such, but no one tops Scorpius in that sense. All the sets, costume designs, makeup and puppetry were gorgeous. I still find myself staring at stills from the show because everything is just so beautiful.
Another fave of mine is Braca, who had a more minor role but was just very funny reactions-wise, and his loyalty to Scorpius gave him so much depth even if it wasn't thoroughly explored. Seriously, the way their dynamic played out in the first half of season 4 was unexpected but I loved it. There should be many more Scorpius/Braca fics! I've re-read the same few at least 3 times already!
Chiana is also fascinating to me, and I wish the writing hadn't done her so dirty at times. Her relationship with D'Argo was something I never enjoyed, but it kept getting worse with every development... Her powers and related blindness was an interesting plot to me, but unfortunately the new eyes they gave her in TPKW weren't fun at all. And she didn't really get anything else in the miniseries, which is so disappointing.
As for Aeryn, I was really excited to meet her character more than any other because I already loved Claudia Black for her work as Morrigan in Dragon Age. Wonderful character, and as much as I loved her romance with Crichton, the one arc I always end up thinking of is the one with her mother. It was just so tragic and beautiful, too, and the way that part of her story ended really highlighted how much Aeryn had changed since her Peacekeeper days.
I could go on and on; Zhaan was a really fascinating character who I wish we could've seen more of, if only Virginia Hey hadn't been so affected by the makeup, D'Argo was a fun take on a Klingon type of character with a wonderful friendship to Crichton, I wish we'd had more of Pilot because he was amazing, Rygel annoyed me at times but I can't deny the charm of such a fun little puppet, and Crais was wonderfully played by Lani Tupu and he kept making me go from liking him to dislking him over and over. I didn't hate Jool as much as I know others did, Sikozu was likeable at times but frustrating in the ending they gave her, and the guest characters were also amazing! My faves were Natira and Furlow.
I'm working on a post-TPKW fic, but it's still on its first draft. It's about the Nebari Resistance, Chiana, Scorpius, Braca, and Sikozu. Yeah, it's a bit of a mess right now.
So, after finishing Farscape, my next logical step was... Stargate! I know Claudia Black and Ben Browder are in late SG-1, so that was my motivation to start. I watched the movie first, and now I'm watching SG-1--for the first time! I'm taking it very slowly, since I started watching maybe in June or July and I just started season 3. It's been fun, not always good, but I'm used to it at this point. I mean, I've watched every Star Trek show! I'm really enjoying the SG-1 team and their dynamics. Jack is very funny, but he's also made me cry several times at this point. I could listen to Sam talking about science for hours, and I love her and Jacob, and her relationship with the Tok'ra in general. Daniel is adorable, and his early seasons floppy hair gave me such nostalgia. Him and Jack have a very fun dynamic, and his friendship to Sam is great. I love Teal'c, he's always such a good friend to everyone, and of course him being the Spock-like character brings a specific type of comedy to some scenes that I really enjoy.
I haven't been reading much, to be honest. I read the first Foundation book and it was a really fast read for me, which I didn't see coming at all. The worldbuilding and foreshadowing were really good, but it's just very frustrating to read a story that well crafted where women are barely even mentioned. Seriously, Asimov?
I've also been reading Neuromancer and enjoying it very much, Gibson's descriptions are really beautiful at times. I haven't read much lately, however, since I started a new Master's and I already have to do a lot of reading for it. I'll update on it when I've had time to finish the book.

YES to all of this! Farscape is one of my absolute favorite shows ever and I really should rewatch it (again). Ka D'argo and Scorpius, good grief.
BTW, the one little thing that I remember impressed me from the start? How John is injected with translator microbes in ep 1. What a neat way to explain why everyone talks English!
ETA: Have fun with SG-1! It's been over a decade since I last watched it, yet another show worth rewatching. I enjoyed S1-8 a Lot, the last two were a bit of a meh. Jack is such an obvious favorite of mine, and not only because my dad looked a lot like Richard Dean Anderson when he was younger.

Aw, that's an adorable reason to like Jack, but of course he's a great character in general. Seriously, it was the biggest change I noticed after watching the movie. Jack having a sense of humour! A really inspired choice.

They are. His writing is dense in the best way. Makes me appreciate all the words. :)
