Err...

The project is said to be set decades before the events of the 2009 movie that was directed J.J. Abrams, likely around modern times. It is said to involve the creation of the Starfleet and humankind’s first contact with alien life.

Creation of "the" Starfleet? We saw that on Enterprise. Humankind's first contact with alien life? That was the movie First Contact.

I'm just very confused by this because, although I've only seen the Star Trek 2009 and not the other 2 in that Abrams trilogy, I thought the Kelvin universe only existed since the moment Nero destroyed the Kelvin ship, so how come we're getting movies about events we already saw? Are they changing the lore so that these events were retroactively changed by Nero's actions?

I just don't understand this, truly.

And now for some good news (imo):

The “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” series at Paramount+ has cast Holly Hunter in a lead role, Variety has learned.

Hunter’s character will serve as the captain and chancellor of the Academy, presiding over both the faculty and a new class of Starfleet cadets as they learn to navigate the galaxy in the 32nd century.

I love Holly Hunter, so this is great news! Let's face it, I also think she'll be very hot in uniform, and I hope she's mean.

I hope the Star Fleet: Academy will be available on other streaming services at some point. Paramount + isn’t available in my country. Sadly, that means I also have no way to watch Strange New Words, a series I would really like to see. I wish they would make a Star Trek: Legacy series though, continuing Star Trek: Picard with Seven as a Captain! I was so sure they were heading that way after I finished Picard, but sadly, there hasn’t been any word about that yet.

I haven’t seen any of the Kelvin timeline movies, so I don’t know how they imagine this movie.

Yes, I was sadly too late to see Discovery on Netflix. It was pulled before I got a chance to watch. I’m from Belgium, I have no idea who holds the right currently to broadcast this and other Star Trek series like Strange New Worlds.

That indeed probably means there won’t be a Legacy series any time soon, a bummer :/

Back before Enterprise first appeared, I remember hearing that its timeline would not be canonical with TOS or TNG. I remember losing interest before it even started for that reason alone, so I didn't watch it when it originally aired. I've seen some episodes since then, but all I can really remember is that "Trip" was easy on the eyes, and Phlox and Shran were well-written and well-acted aliens, much more interesting than any recurring aliens (except Spock, of course) from the early two series.

all of this has happened before

all of this will happen again
