Sci-Fi everywhere (and some fantasy)

Forgive me for being like this, it's been over a year since my last post. To be fair, I've been commenting on comms, but I also abandoned my own account. As usual, I'm mostly active on Twitter and on private group chats, but I thought I'd share a bit of what I've watched and read in the last year. I'll divide this post in sections since it might end up being a bit long. Spoilers ahead, by the way!
To start with, as some of you might remember, I started watching Star Trek last year. I went into it in a (mostly) chronological order, and as of today I can say I've watched most of it. That is to say, the only things I haven't watched are Into Darkness, Beyond, season 2 of Short Treks (non American trekkies can relate, I'm sure) and possibly the latest Prodigy episode. Otherwise, I've watched it all. Yep, even TAS.
As I started interacting with the fandom on Twitter I got the feeling that DS9 was going to be my fave, and I was totally right. I enjoyed all the shows, but DS9 won my heart. I liked the more serialised approach to the writing, which worked really well with the setting and the story. The Dominion was a fascinating enemy, and the war itself was an arc I couldn't help but bingewatch. The comedy episodes were mostly fun, too, which I really appreciate; I like my shows to have comedic relief, thank you. On the whole, I think it's a solid show, even if some seasons were a bit weak (the first and the last, I'd say). All the cast is great, with Quark being my personal fave because Armin Shimerman was just excellent, and he was great in both dramatic and comedic scenes. I loved the canon friendships, and enjoyed some of the romantic relationships, but overall most of the romances weren't my cup of tea. I really liked Quark and Grilka, and I thought Sisko and Kasidy were quite cute, as well as Rom and Leeta. Jadzia and Lenara had a beautiful story, and I think "Rejoined" is one of the best episodes in the show. Jadzia and Worf weren't my faves together, even if they had their cute moments; I really wasn't fond of Worf's writing in DS9, which is strange since he was one of my faves in TNG. On the other hand, Kira/Odo and Julian/Ezri were couples I didn't like at all. Garak and Bashir had great chemistry, and I'm loving all the fics, fanart, and even the scripts Sid and Andy Robinson have been performing on Zoom. It's just a great fandom to be a part of!
The show I'm currently watching for the first time is Babylon 5, and I'm on season 5. Yes, I'm aware of the controversy and the similarities between B5 and DS9 but hey, I enjoy them both! This show has been such a great watch, even if it has, like every other show, some bad episodes. I'd say Londo, G'Kar, Vir, Marcus and Ivanova are my faves, but I honestly like most characters. I'm still upset about Talia and Ivanova, and I can't wait to finish watching the show and find some fix-its or even post canon fix-its for them. I actually decided to start watching Babylon 5 when the reboot was announced, so let's see how that goes when it happens. Surely the CGI will be better, but some characters I just can't imagine being played by different actors.
Finally, I've been slowly getting into Discworld after years of thinking about it. My reading habits have worsened in time, and I wish I could go back to the time when I'd devour books, but I guess I've changed. I've read three books so far: The Colour of Magic, The Light Fantastic, and The Wee Free Men. I know most people are against reading the first books to start with Discworld, but I'm a bit stubborn and I wanted to start from the beginning. I understand now why it's recommended to start with other books, but I still enjoyed them. The characters especially were great, and by the time Twoflower left I was really fond of him and Rincewind, and of their friendship. I look forward to the rest of the Discworld books!
